The proposed scheme is for three new dwellings on an ‘in-fill’ plot within the city of Winchester. The appearance of the dwellings has been created from design solutions developed in responds to the constraints of the site, which included a lack of natural light from mature trees and the potential for overlooking into adjacent neighbouring properties.
Internal lightwells draw uninterrupted natural light into the core of each dwelling to accommodate amenity spaces below. Large mature trees on the northern boundary also impact the north facing bedrooms and the front elevation has therefore been informed through the introduction of large glazed openings with chamfered reveals, which not only help maximise natural light to these spaces but assist in directing sky light from the east.
Openings to top storey spaces to the rear of the dwellings have been proposed as louvered to prevent overlooking into neighbouring gardens while insuring that there are no restrictions on natural light.
