The design for a new house on a spectacular raised position overlooking Canvey Island replaces a 1980s red brick house. The building is conceived as a series of geometric planes finished in white render. The deep recesses and the projecting elements have been staggered to give a strong sculptural quality to the house; as the sun tracks around during the day, dark shadows contrast with the bright white elements. The house orientates towards the Thames Estuary with the main living space opening out to the south and the east, with a large roof terrace at third floor leading off from the master bedroom.
